The fires have been devasting financially, emotionally, psychologically and physically for many of Altadena residents. There was a delay in the warning of the fires and "we want to ensure that there is not a delay or deficit in rebuilding efforts". The goal in the Town Hall is also to alleviate suffering and isolation. The center is hosting weekly Town Halls to assist with the recovery efforts and provide information real time so that our residents can understand and make a smooth transition forward. These town halls provide a link to residents and to the many agencies in the area that are providing assistance. "The goal is to assist our residents so that they are in the front of the line and not the back of the line and are able to apply for available resources in a timely manner. We especially want to ensure that our seniors, students and vulnerable populations have the resources that they need so that they are comfortable during the reconstruction process and made whole". Refuge Christian Center, Pastor Dominique Frank and A Taste of Culture, Paula Boyd CEO, are partnering to host these Town Halls. They are also providing assistance to residents, water, clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, pampers, toilet paper, paper towels, shoes, belts, dog food, air mattresses, air purifiers, housing referrals and other essentials. One on one prayer is available. Additionally, efforts are being made to provide aid and resources to support residents in rebuilding their homes, ensuring they are not forced to sell due to fear, lack of awareness, limited resources, temporary housing challenges, living expenses during the rebuilding process, or insufficient funding. Particular attention is being given to seniors on fixed incomes, many of whom worked tirelessly and made significant sacrifices to pay off their homes. The goal is to prevent them from experiencing undue hardship as a result of a national disaster beyond their control. This initiative extends beyond simply rebuilding homes; it is about restoring the community, preserving its love, family bonds, and the beauty that defined it before the fires. Captain Williams of the Los Angeles Sheriff Department attended last weeks town hall along with Reverend Turner, Commissioner Hampton, Realtor Jewel Crosby, Nena's Organics, etc. There will be a roundtable lunch where residents can have lunch and speak one on one with the experts. The Theme is "Altadena Beautiful, Come Together, Build Together, Stay Together". The following will be in attendance: • Michael Hart - FEMA • Dr. Kevin Bowman , Principal Scientist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory • Patrick Tracy - Clean Up, Debris Removal • Commissioner Tyron Hampton Sr. • Assembly Candidate Keith Cascio. Special performance by EMAYLA. Lunch Served. For more information, email refugechristiancenter03@gmail.com.
