Artist Wang Mansheng shares the stories and techniques behind “Without Us,” currently on display in the Studio for Lodging the Mind. Wang Mansheng joins curator Phillip Bloom to discuss the ideas and inspirations underlying Without Us, his immersive painting installation that combines contemporary art with classical Chinese conceptions of nature. Through this work that distills his decades-long practice of ink painting, Wang seeks to encourage visitors’ reflection on their place within the natural world. After the conversation, Wang will demonstrate some of his techniques of painting and calligraphy in the Rose Hills Court, including his use of reed brushes and black walnut ink. Wang Mansheng: Without Us and affiliated programming are generously supported by the Cheng Family Foundation and June and Simon K.C. Li.
