Exploring Pasadena on Foot: Saloons & Speakeasies

Published on Jul 15, 2022

Prohibition crackdown in Pasadena, 1920s; MPC PO7-30b

History sleuth and tour guide Julia Long will lead a two-hour stroll through Old Pasadena on Saturday, July 16, sponsored by the Pasadena Museum of History (PMH).

In this tour, “Exploring Pasadena on Foot: Saloons & Speakeasies,” you will learn about Pasadena’s long and complicated relationship with alcohol.

Pasadena prided itself on being a “dry” community even before Prohibition, which obviously meant that there was rampant rule-breaking everywhere you turned. The tour will let you explore the ups and the downs, the “wets” and the “drys,” that have characterized this colorful slice of the Crown City’s history.

Note, though, that the tour will not enter any bars or restaurants or include alcoholic beverages.

The tour will begin at 10 a.m. outside the Gold Bug, at 34 Union Street, and end next to Lucky Baldwin’s Pub at 17 S. Raymond Ave. Space is limited and advanced reservations are required.
