The store, which has sold handcrafted goods from artisans in more than 30 countries since it opened on South Lake Avenue in June 2006, is extending its hours for the event. The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., one hour past the store’s regular 6 p.m. closing time, according to the store’s event flyer.
The daylong sale applies to gifts across the store’s selection of artisan-crafted jewelry, home decor, accessories and other items. Henna tattoos will be available for $5 to $10. Snacks and drinks are included.
An evening macrame class runs from 5 to 7 p.m. The class is listed on Eventbrite as “Galentine’s Macrame Night.”
Galentine’s Day, celebrated annually on February 13 — the day before Valentine’s Day — is an informal holiday honoring friendship. It was popularized by the television show “Parks and Recreation” in 2010.
Ten Thousand Villages Pasadena is a nonprofit retailer run by a volunteer board of directors. The organization was founded in 1946 and is a founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization. The Pasadena location was the first Ten Thousand Villages store in California, according to the store’s website. Every purchase supports artisans earning fair wages in under-resourced communities, the store states.
The store supports more than 20,000 artisans worldwide, according to its website — and on February 13, Pasadena shoppers can support them at a discount.
Free two-hour parking is available in the store’s lot. For more information, call (626) 229-9892 or email pasadena@tenthousandvillages.
