Artist and acclaimed children’s book author/illustrator David Shannon (Duck on a Bike, Too Many Toys, Bugs in My Hair!, the No, David! series, and many more) will read his newest children’s book, Mr. Nogginbody Gets a Hammer, hosted by the South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC), during the free Winter Arts Crawl on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the SPARC Gallery inside the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

Shannon’s editorial illustrations have appeared in such major publications as Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and the New York Times. His many children’s books—the Caldecott Honor-winning, No, David! among them—have delighted his young audiences over the years with quirky visual humor and comical text. Mr. Nogginbody Gets a Hammer, published by Norton Young Readers, will be available for purchase and Shannon will be on hand to sign copies throughout the Winter Arts Crawl. This event is part of SPARC’s ongoing Literary Project for both child and adult audiences, featuring in-person presentations by authors and illustrators.

(A more serious facet of Shannon’s creativity will also be on display for Arts Crawl attendees. “Incognition,” an exhibit of Shannon’s thought-provoking series of abstract oil paintings at the SPARC Chamber Gallery through Feb. 28, exploring “the increasingly irrational nature of contemporary culture,” will be on view during the event.)

The free Winter Arts Crawl, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and produced by SPACE (South Pasadena Arts Center), takes place on Mission Street and adjacent blocks in the City of South Pasadena, featuring art exhibitions and activities, live music, open houses, food and drink specials, and sales throughout the business district.
