Donate non-perishable food items during the “Feed the Pumpkin” Food Drive throughout October at any of three locations in Pasadena and in return pick up a complimentary pumpkin decorating kit as a “thank you” from the hosts.
One Colorado and CoreGiving, a nationwide philanthropic foundation which aims to fight childhood hunger, are hosting the food drive.
The food items will be collected by Friends in Deed in Pasadena and given away in various feeding programs for the benefit of underserved children and their families.
Acceptable donations to the food drive include canned tuna or chicken, canned soups, chili, pasta and pasta sauce, peanut butter, cereal, rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, can openers, dry beans, oats, coffee, and jelly.
The food drive actually began on Saturday, Oct. 10, and will continue through the end of the month, but “Feed the Pumpkin” kits are available only from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in celebration of World Food Day.
The giveaway pumpkin decorating kit will contain all the usual suspects: googly eyes, beads, foam stickers, pipe cleaners, and glue. Pumpkin kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
To join the food drive, drop off non-perishable food donations at the pumpkin-shaped bins in three areas at One Colorado – the courtyard behind Nike Running, Douglas Alley, and Kendall Alley at Union Street.
Aside from the pumpkin decorating kit, participants could also get a $250 gift card to a retailer of their choice, and One Colorado will give a $250 donation in the donor’s name to a local food bank. Just text “GIVE1CO” to 55800 for a chance to get this card.
An RSVP is required to be able to get a pumpkin decorating kit on Friday.
When through decorating the pumpkin, One Colorado also encourages people to share a photo on Instagram, @OneColoradoOldPasadena.
