The Film History Tour of the Fényes Mansion is scheduled for April 19 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will be led by Julia Long, the museum’s Curator of History & Exhibitions.
“The Fényes Estate has been a popular filming location for over 100 years,” according to museum materials. The tour will explore this rich heritage, which began when Eva Scott Fényes, the estate’s benefactor, took an interest in early filmmaking.
Fényes “was interested in the burgeoning art of filmmaking and invited directors like D.W. Griffith to film at the Fényes Estate,” establishing a tradition that continues today.
The 90-minute guided tour will cover the mansion’s appearances in movies, television shows, music videos, and commercials throughout its century-long history as a filming location.
Admission, priced at $18 for general visitors and $13 for museum members, includes both the Film History Tour and access to the museum’s current “100 Years – 100 Images” exhibition.
Museum officials emphasize that this specialized tour differs from their standard mansion tours. “This is not an introductory tour about the Fényes Mansion, art and architecture, or Eva Fényes and her family,” the announcement notes, directing those interested in general tours to the museum’s website.
The event aligns with the Pasadena Museum of History’s core mission of providing engaging, history-based programming to the community. The museum regularly offers various tours, lectures, and presentations designed to appeal to diverse audiences.
Space for this specialized film history tour is limited, and advance reservations are required through https://pasadenahistory.org/
