On Saturday, October 1, Fire Family Foundation held their annual Fire Boot Classic at the Castaway in Burbank. Special guest MC Ellen Leyva, ABC7 Eyewitness News Anchor took guests through an action-packed event including a poker tournament and fun games, gourmet dinner under the stars, hosted cocktail reception, silent auction packages and a photo booth.

“Firefighters sacrifice their personal safety to help others by responding to fires, disasters, car accidents and health crises. Now is our time to step up to help those who support us on our worst days. Attending our Fire Boot Classic is fun and provides needed funds for our core programs,” said Elizabeth Dever, Executive Director.

This event funds the Foundation’s four core programs, which provide support and financial assistance to firefighters and their families in need: relief grants to firefighter families facing hardship, annual college scholarships to the children of firefighters, disaster relief to firefighters who have lost their homes, and grants to other fire charities.

Greg Fish, Fire Chief of Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District was the honoree of the event. Greg Fish, the son of an LAFD Fire Captain, was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. He began his career as a firefighter with the Glendale Fire Department. In 1998 he was promoted to the position of Fire Captain. He steadily rose through the ranks and was eventually promoted to the position of Glendale Fire Chief. He retired from Glendale in September of 2018. In October of 2018, Greg was appointed as the Fire Chief of the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District. In his new position, he is heavily focused on the safety and well-being of his firefighters.
