First United Methodist Church Plans Christmas Eve Services and Holiday Events

Traditional candlelight celebration to feature chancel choir, while family service focuses on children's worship experience

First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Pasadena will hold two distinct Christmas Eve services this year, with both early evening and late-night worship opportunities for congregants.

“On Christmas Eve (5:00 p.m.) we will have a special worship service for children and families. Come celebrate the birth of Christ with us!” the First United Methodist Church website states.

The family-oriented service, scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, aims to create a child-friendly celebration, while a more traditional candlelight service will follow from 10 to 11 p.m.

“Join us for our traditional Christmas Eve Service at First UMC! This moving candlelight service includes magnificent music offered by the Chancel Choir and orchestra, a brief meditation, and the celebration of Holy Communion,” according to the FUMC statement.

The church’s outreach continues beyond Christmas Eve, with the Prayer Quilt Ministry gathering scheduled for Christmas Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Church Lounge.

“Have quilting and sewing abilities? Join our Prayer Quilt Ministry. We create beautiful quilts that our members can tie prayers into for those who request them,” the church said, adding that meetings are held weekly.

The Prayer Quilt Ministry event will be repeated on New Year’s Day, January 1, maintaining the same hours at the Colorado Blvd. location.
