First United Methodist Church to Host Conversation on Faith-Based Grassroots Organizing

The intersection of religious faith and political activism will be the focus of a special Sunday conversation at the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena this weekend.

The free event, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, will feature a discussion with local community organizers Patrick Briggs and Maddie Gavel-Briggs.

Both speakers are members of All Saints Episcopal Church Pasadena and are actively involved with San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible, a local chapter of the national grassroots movement dedicated to defending democracy and promoting civic engagement.

During the hour-long session, Briggs and Gavel-Briggs will explore how the local Indivisible chapter was formed and discuss how their Christian faith has directly informed and motivated their activism.

The First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, established in 1874, has a 150-year tradition of hosting civic discussions. This event, organized by the church’s Church and Society group, continues that legacy by providing a platform to examine the role of faith in modern political engagement.

The discussion carries added timeliness, as it precedes a planned nationwide demonstration organized by the Indivisible movement set for March 28.

The conversation will take place at the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, located at 500 E. Colorado Blvd. The event is open to the public and free to attend. For more information, call 626-796-0157.
