A grocery bag and $5 will get Pasadena readers a haul of used books, CDs, and DVDs this Saturday at the Friends of the Pasadena Public Library’s next Patio Book Sale.
The sale, set for February 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Friends Bookstore on the Jefferson Campus, 1500 E. Villa St., is one of several the nonprofit holds each year to raise money for programs at all 10 of the city’s open library branches. Items inside the bookstore will be 50% off during the sale, according to the Friends.
The bookstore sits on the east side of the Jefferson Branch Library, between Hill and Allen avenues. The patio sale features a range of used books, DVDs, CDs, and children’s books spread across outdoor tables, according to previous City of Pasadena announcements about the Friends’ sales.
The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1975, has supported the library system’s programming for 50 years, according to the organization and the City of Pasadena. Sale proceeds fund programs including Summer Reading Club, One City One Story, and events for Women’s History Month, Black History Month, Latino Heritage Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, and Native American Heritage Month, according to the City of Pasadena library system.
The Pasadena Public Library operates 10 branch locations across the city. The Central Library, designed by Myron Hunt and H.C. Chambers and opened in 1927, remains temporarily closed for an earthquake retrofit.
The Friends Bookstore is open Monday through Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular prices outside of the sale are $1 for hardbacks, audio CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays and 50 cents for paperbacks, according to the library system. Book donations are accepted at the Book Bin on the Jefferson Branch Library premises.
