The 40th Annual Inter-City Cactus and Succulent Show and Sale closes Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. The sale ran Aug. 7 through 9 and the judged show Aug. 8 and 9, both open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Arboretum describes the event as the largest cactus and succulent show in the United States.
This year carries extra weight. Following what organizers called their largest and most successful show in many years in 2025, the 2026 event features more than 2,000 exceptional plants from six continents, alongside thousands of rare, unusual and specialty plants offered by more than two dozen vendors from across the country.
Event Chair Gunnar Eisel described the anniversary show as “a celebration of the remarkable plants, lasting friendships, and spirit of camaraderie.”
The show half of the event is competitive. A panel of judges evaluates exhibits grown by experienced hobbyists and collectors, with trophies awarded to the most exceptional entries. For newcomers, the education program is the draw: free walks and talks led by experienced growers cover propagation, seed growing, potting methods, plant care and staging plants for exhibition.
The event is presented by the Long Beach, Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley cactus and succulent societies. Entry is included with Arboretum admission, and advance tickets are required for non-members.
