The 90-minute outdoor event, titled “Composting 101,” begins at 10 a.m. on March 1 at the nursery’s location in Hahamongna Watershed Park.
Participants will receive instruction on various composting methods, including worm composting, and learn how to transform kitchen and yard waste into nutrient-rich humus for garden use.
The workshop is the nursery’s first community event since the wildfires of January affected the area.
No registration is required for the free workshop, but attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for outdoor activities. Native plants will be available for purchase before and after the educational program.
The Hahamongna Native Plant Nursery is located at 4550 Oak Grove Drive in northwest Pasadena, near the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The facility is managed and operated by the Arroyo Seco Foundation, a century-old nonprofit organization based in Pasadena.
The Arroyo Seco Foundation said the facility is entirely staffed by unpaid volunteers.
The nursery will host several more community educational events throughout the year.
