Starting a business and running one are different problems, and both can benefit from an hour with someone who has already solved them. On Tuesday afternoon, the Pasadena Public Library hosts the next round of its ongoing free SCORE small business mentoring sessions — one-on-one, confidential, and open to anyone thinking about launching a venture or expanding an existing one.
SCORE — the nation’s largest network of former business owners and executives offering free mentoring to small businesses — has partnered with the Pasadena Public Library to offer the in-person sessions every other Tuesday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The June 2 round is the next scheduled date. Appointments are one hour each and can be reserved up to 14 days in advance.
The local roster includes Richard “RP” Mader, a 20-year certified SCORE mentor and lifelong Pasadena entrepreneur, along with other mentors who bring experience across industries. Sessions cover the typical range of small-business questions: writing a business plan, navigating financing, marketing, hiring, lease negotiations, succession planning, and the everyday operational decisions that can make or break a young company.
Since 1964, SCORE has educated and mentored more than 17 million small business owners and entrepreneurs nationwide, supported in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Pasadena partnership extends a service that costs hundreds of dollars an hour in private consulting practice to anyone willing to book a slot at the library.
