Free blood pressure, glucose and hearing checks run from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St. Bags of fresh produce go out on the patio while supplies last. No sign-up is needed.
The center holds the health fair on the third Friday of each month. This one comes as the center takes in more older adults from Altadena. Their own senior center burned in the Eaton Fire.
Kathy Eastwood of Huntington Hospital does the blood pressure and glucose tests, the center says. The Hear Center gives the hearing checks. It also offers hearing aid consultations starting at 9 a.m. Insurance agents bring Medicare plan information and answer questions.
The produce comes from Order of Malta Mobile Ministries, the center says. It goes out in pre-packed bags of vegetables. Visitors are asked to bring a bag or a pull-behind cart to get it home.
Anyone who wants more than a table visit on Medicare can book a separate session. The center offers health insurance counseling twice a month. Those sessions are by appointment.
The Pasadena Senior Center is an independent nonprofit. It serves adults 50 and older. It counts roughly 2,100 members, drawn largely from Pasadena and Altadena ZIP codes.
Altadena seniors are welcome at the Pasadena center. The center gives as its reason that the Altadena Senior Center burned down.
Parking is free in the center’s own lot just east of the building, off Holly Street. Spaces go first come, first served. A large share of them require a disabled-person placard. Validated parking is offered at 171 N. Raymond Ave. Metro’s Memorial Park Station sits at 125 E. Holly St.
