The Pasadena Senior Center will screen the 1981 German war film “Das Boot” on Friday, January 30 at 1 p.m. as part of its ongoing Friday Movie Matinee series.

The free screening features the R-rated film starring Jürgen Prochnow and Herbert Grönemeyer about the crew of a German submarine during World War II as they contend with tense conflicts. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest, though seating is limited and advance registration is required.

The center promotes the movie series as an opportunity for older adults to experience films that “can be revitalizing and can help viewers relax and disconnect for a couple of hours,” spotlighting social and mental well-being benefits rather than historical or political education.

The “Das Boot” screening is one of four Friday movie matinees PSC scheduled for January 2026. According to a December 21 press release titled “Free January Events Hosted By Pasadena Senior Center,” the center planned screenings for Fridays, January 9, 16, 23 and 30, all at 1 p.m. onsite.

The Pasadena Senior Center is an independent, donor-supported nonprofit located at 85 E. Holly St. in Pasadena. Described as California’s first nationally accredited senior center, PSC serves adults 50 and older with no residency requirement. Despite its city-owned building location, PSC is not run by or funded by the City of Pasadena, which provides only the building and utilities.

Friday Movie Matinee: “Das Boot” will run on Friday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 795-4331 or visit https://www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org/activities-events/friday-movie-matinee.
