Pasadena Playhouse, California’s official State Theater and recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award, has announced the complete cast for its upcoming production of “Cyrano de Bergerac.” The play, freely adapted by Martin Crimp from Edmond Rostand’s original, will run from Sept. 4 to Sept. 29, with a press opening on Sept. 8.

Directed by Mike Donahue, known for his work on “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Pasadena Playhouse, the production boasts an impressive lineup of talent. Chukwudi Iwuji, recognized for his roles in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Peacemaker,” will lead the cast as Cyrano.

Rosa Salazar, star of “Alita: Battle Angel” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” takes on the role of Roxane. Will Hochman, fresh from his Broadway debut in “The Sound Inside,” portrays Christian.

Kimberly Scott, a Tony nominee for “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” rounds out the principal cast as Madame Ragueneau. The ensemble includes Larry Powell, Jens Austin Astrup, Aaron Costa Ganis, E.M. Davis, Christine Lin, Barry Livingston, Michael Nathanson, Kila Packett, Sawyer Patterson, Jonathan Slavin, and John Garet Stoker.

Crimp’s adaptation, described by The Hollywood Reporter as “a dazzlingly inventive and entertaining new version,” offers a fresh take on Rostand’s timeless love story. The London Times hailed it as “mesmerizing… glittering… unforgettable.”

The creative team features Afsoon Pajoufar as scenic designer, Carolyn Mazuca handling costumes, and Josh Epstein and Edward Hansen collaborating on lighting design. Veronika Vorel will oversee sound design, with Rachel Lee Flesher serving as fight director and intimacy coordinator. Christine Adaire joins as Voice/Text Coach, with casting by RBT Casting.

Danny Feldman, Producing Artistic Director of Pasadena Playhouse, emphasized the significance of this production in the theater’s lineup. The play’s modern poetry and rhythmic language promise to breathe new life into the classic tale of unrequited love.
