Blinded by the Blues, a SoCal blues band dedicated to Chicago-style West Coast blues with some Texas Shuffle, will be performing at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena on Thursday, January 27, starting at 8 p.m.
Influenced by many styles of music creating a unique sound, Blinded by the Blues Band is a straight-ahead blues band that has incorporated a mixture of different blues styles into its setlists. The band is anchored by the harp stylings of “Blind Bulldog” Ronnie Johnson.
Sight-impaired from childhood, Johnson was raised to be a musician by his stepdad, the great New Orleans piano player Ronnie Barron. He experienced this musical style at a very early age, and it is now part of his soul. He brings that same experience to the band and keeps it firmly grounded in the blues sounds of the 50s and 60s.
In addition to “Blind Bulldog,” the current line-up features Mark “Flash Cadillac” on the guitar, “Wild Bill” Crandall on drums, and John Mansour on vocals and bass. Blinded By The Blues is deeply influenced by blues greats such as Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Little Walter, James Cotton, and George Harmonica Smith, to name just a few.
Tickets to their show at Coffee Gallery Backstage are $20. To buy tickets, call (626) 798-6236.
