Get Fresh Air, Incredible Views, And The Exercise You Need

Published on Aug 17, 2022

The Sierra Club Pasadena Group will be leading a Henninger Flats Conditioning Hike on Thursday, Aug. 18, starting at about 6:45 p.m. at 2260 Pinecrest Drive in Altadena.

Meeting every Thursday, except during a holiday, the Henninger Flats Conditioning Hike is a total of 5.25 miles, an elevation gain of 1,400 feet where you can enjoy great views of the Los Angeles basin and the night sky while getting an aerobic hiking workout.

The hike is a relatively moderate, non-technical climb up a single-track trail and historic fire roads that is popular with hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers alike. This route is in the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains, close to Altadena and Pasadena. It’s near the popular Eaton Canyon Falls and is also one of the closest developed campgrounds to the Los Angeles region.

Participants are advised to arrive in time to sign a waiver and signup sheet. The group will start walking promptly at 7 p.m. The gate for entry is locked after Sunset.

Some restricted parking is available on Pinecrest Drive. Just look for signs and red-painted curbs. If you’re coming from the 210 Freeway, exit at Altadena Drive, north to Crescent Drive, and turn right one block to Pinecrest Drive.

Bring water, sturdy shoes, and an optional flashlight or headlight.
