Colburn School’S 2022-2023 season kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 1, with an emotional journey from a turbulent Brahms overture to Bartok’s lively “Concerto for Orchestra,” at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena.

In between, a vibrant work for trumpet and orchestra highlights the instrument’s extensive range.

Ruth Reinhardt is conducting and Joey Tkach is on the trumpet.

The program includes Brahms’ “Tragic Overture,” Alfred Desenclos’ “Incantation” and “Thrène et Danse for Trumpet,” and Béla Bartók’s “Concerto for Orchestra.”

At 6 p.m., members of the audience can have a pre-concert conversation with the conductor, soloist, and Lee Cioppa, Dean of the Conservatory of Music, in the Ambassador Auditorium’s lower lobby.

Tickets are $15 to $30. To purchase tickets, go to https://checkout.colburnschool.edu/316/343.
