The tournament is a major fundraiser for South Pasadena’s all-volunteer float, which the committee, known as SPTOR, describes as the oldest self-built float in the Rose Parade and one of only six entries built and funded entirely by community volunteers and donors. SPTOR has stated in its published fundraising materials that the committee works to raise roughly $200,000 annually for structural materials, mechanical components, supplies, and fresh flowers.
Registration opens at 7 a.m. The format is a best-ball scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The course is located at 1055 Lohman Lane in South Pasadena.
The 2027 float, titled “Welcome to the Neighborhood,” depicts a family of bluebirds moving into a new home as woodland neighbors arrive bearing gifts, according to an SPTOR description. It was designed by local artist Renee Hoss-Johnson. The float will roll down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena on Jan. 1, 2027, marking what the committee describes as South Pasadena’s 113th year of float participation in the parade.
The tournament is sponsored by Shaw, Moses, Mendenhall Insurance, according to SPTOR. A $10,000 hole-in-one challenge is sponsored by Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta. Lunch, an awards ceremony, and raffle drawings follow play.
SPTOR has published the following entry costs: foursomes are $300 per group; singles are $90 if paid by June 19 and $100 on the day of the event. Tee signs featuring the 2027 float artwork are $150 each. Silver and Gold sponsorship packages are listed at $400 and $700 and include multiple golfers, tee signs, lunches, and raffle tickets. All player packages include lunch and beverages, according to SPTOR.
The 2027 Rose Parade theme, “Welcome,” was selected by Tournament of Roses President Mark Madigan. According to SPTOR, Madigan drove South Pasadena’s float in the 1981 and 1982 parades as a South Pasadena High School student volunteer.
“The magic in teamwork is more than just a concept — it’s a reality we, and every self-built community, experience each year,” Janet Benjamin, SPTOR decorating chairperson, said in remarks about a prior float, as reported by The South Pasadenan. “It’s truly magical to bring a float rendering to life.”
