Pasadena’s Winter Watering Schedule is now in effect and will be up to March 31, 2021, Pasadena Water and power announced on Twitter Thursday.
Under this schedule, outdoor watering is limited to only one day a week – Saturday only – and must be done before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
“The Winter Watering Schedule began this week! Please remember to update your irrigation timers, as watering is now limited to one day (Saturday) per week. To maximize plant hydration, water before 9 AM and after 6 PM,” PWP’s tweet said.
To further conserve water, PWP requires all property owners to fix leaks, breaks, or other sprinkler system malfunctions when they find them, or within 72 hours upon receiving a notice from PWP.
Aside from the seasonal restrictions, PWP also implements permanent water waste prohibitions, including no watering outdoors between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., except when using a hand-held container or hose with a shut-off nozzle, or for very short periods when adjusting a sprinkler system. Also, no watering is allowed during and within 48 hours after periods of significant rain.
When watering outdoors, property owners are prohibited from allowing water flow or runoff onto adjacent property, non-irrigated areas, private and public walkways, roadways, parking lots or structures; and excessive water flow or runoff onto the pavement, gutters or ditches.
These restrictions do not apply to watering outdoors for the purpose of adjusting or repairing an irrigation system, maintaining trees as necessary to sustain their health and viability, maintaining vegetation, including fruit trees and shrubs, intended for consumption; and maintaining landscape for fire protection.
PWP imposes fines against customers who continue to violate the water conservation ordinance. Fines could be anywhere from $100 to $500 and are double for non-residential customers with meters of 1.5 inch or larger.
