Pasadena’s Tail Town Cat Café opens its doors today for the second annual Carnival of Cats, a free, family-friendly open house inviting the community to interact with 30 to 40 free-roaming rescue cats while enjoying games, refreshments, and feline-themed festivities.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at 1780 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, just west of Allen Avenue. Tail Town’s adoption lounge will be open for free guest visits throughout the day, offering a unique opportunity to meet adoptable cats in a relaxed setting designed to foster meaningful connections.
Last year’s inaugural Carnival drew more than 600 attendees, and organizers expect a strong turnout this year. In addition to interacting with the cats, guests can participate in shortened versions of Tail Town’s monthly event programs, including Kitty Bingo, Cat Trivia, Cat Cornhole, and Meow N Paint, with games starting on the hour at noon. Visitors can also enjoy refreshments, carnival-style games, help with cat socialization, and even have their fortunes read.
“We open our doors to allow the community to visit our lounge for free and get a glimpse at the amazing and loving work we do with cats,” said Gwendolyn Mathers, acting executive director of Tail Town Cats.
New this year is a VIP Experience, priced at $25 per person, which includes a swag bag filled with new Tail Town merchandise, a free drink, and a fast pass to chill with the cats in the lounge. The option is designed to enhance the experience for attendees while supporting the nonprofit’s rescue and adoption work.
Guests may also gain insight into Tail Town Cats’ mission to prevent cruelty to animals and educate the public about animal welfare. Since opening, the organization has adopted more than 500 animals into their forever homes, including cats rescued from high-kill shelters, dangerous street conditions, or cases of neglect. Tail Town Cats operates in partnership with Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles and offers ongoing educational programs and social events for cat lovers of all kinds.
The 2,000-square-foot, women-owned and operated cat café provides a home-like environment where up to 40 cats can roam freely, interact with visitors, and potentially meet their future families. Tail Town also offers regular visiting hours, after-hours experiences, and opportunities for corporate events, art shows, and private parties in a relaxed feline-friendly atmosphere.
Attendees may also catch a glimpse of one of Tail Town’s Big Head Cats, oversized mascot-style figures that previously appeared in the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade—a nod to the café’s playful approach to community engagement.
