Wednesday, Dec. 2, is National Mutt Day, a time to celebrate mixed-breed dogs.
Of course if you don’t have one, the best thing you can do to celebrate the day is going to Pasadena Humane and adopting one.
Adopting a mutt at Pasadena Humane is by virtual appointment only for the meantime. There are some policies that you need to observe when adopting, so visit www.pasadenahumane.as.me/adopt for more information. There’s a short questionnaire fill out to help Pasadena Humane prepare for your one-on-one phone appointment with an adoption counselor.
Also, booking an adoption appointment is not a guarantee of adoption. A pet may receive multiple adoption inquiries. Adoptions are finalized in order of appointment.
Jack Hagerman, vice president of community engagement at Pasadena Humane, writes about other ways to celebrate National Mutt Day.
Post pictures or your favorite mutt videos on social media that showcase your pet doing adorable and hysterical things. If you do post, tag Pasadena Humane, @pasadenahumane.
Take your mutt to the dog park for some fun in the sun. It ensures your mutt’s fitness as well.
When allowed, take your mutt to the pet store to pick out some treats and stock up on things you need to keep him healthy and happy.
Go for a walk. It’s great for both you and your pet. If you don’t have a dog, offer to take an elderly neighbor’s dog out for a stroll.
Pay it forward. Shelters like Pasadena Humane are always in need of donated items such as towels, blankets, unopened pet food, kuranda beds, and toys. Check out all the ways you can give at www.pasadenahumane.org. Just click on the “Get Involved” tab.
“However you celebrate this treasured national holiday, I hope you’ll take a moment to think about all the homeless pets in shelters whose lives have been turned upside down by getting lost or abandoned,” Hagerman said. “Take some time to think about all these forgotten companions and what you can do to help them get a second chance.”
