The one-hour workshop is organized by WOW That’s STEM, Inc., a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2022 by Katelyn Liu, who received the 2024 NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Impact Award. The program targets children ages 6 through 11 and highlights hands-on learning where kids build projects to reinforce science concepts, then test and refine their creations.
The organization’s mission is “Making STEM fun, accessible, and inclusive for every child,” with an extended focus on “Bridging the gaps in STEM education by increasing access, equity, and representation for underserved youth.”
Liu serves as co-captain and programmer on a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team and has been recognized for research at the intersection of ecology and computer science. She has run workshops and summer camps with teammates, introducing girls to robotics and conducting community outreach.
WOW That’s STEM has conducted multiple documented workshops throughout the region, including sessions at Pasadena’s Lamanda Park Branch, Monrovia Library, Burbank YMCA, and Columbia Memorial Space Center.
Space is limited and registration is recommended. For accessibility information and requests, contact La Pintoresca Branch Library at (626) 744-7268. Providing at least 72 hours advance notice helps ensure availability.
