Offering special deals and promotions at local businesses, live music, and special events for the kids including a Kids Zone Station for art and crafts, Holiday Sip and Shop at Mariposa Junction in Altadena promises to be a fun-filled experience for the whole family on Saturday, Dec. 3.
“We’ll have live music, drinks, vendors, a big raffle, drawings and just much more,” Sandra Thomas, President of the Altadena Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event, said. “It’s a great opportunity for these businesses to kick off the holiday. And people will come out that day and shop and they can bring their pets and they can take advantage of great deals and promotions.”
Pasadena native Michael Haggins will be performing live music along with his band
Over 30 vendors have signed up to join the event which is from 12 to 4 p.m., including youth vendors and food trucks offering a variety of food and drink options for all attendees.
“There’ll be all kinds of vendors from Pasadena and Altadena, and they have all kinds of things that they’re selling that day,” Thomas said.
During the event, Day One, one of the newest members of the Altadena Chamber will be hosting its annual Toy Drive by collecting toys at their booth. They’re asking the community to drop off an unwrapped toy between 12 and 4 p.m. Day One is holding a separate Cherishing Children event on Friday, Dec. 9 at their offices in Pasadena.
One of the other new features for this second year of Holiday Sip and Shop is a portion that’s set aside especially for children, Thomas said.
“At that, there will be the usual face paintings, and they will be given an opportunity to be creative on their own, do their own paintings or design earrings and things like that,” she said. “And so we’re excited about that. And also, the Altadena library will be out there and they will have some things going on for the children.”
The Altadena Library is rolling out their Curiosity Connection mobile library for the event. Curiosity Connection has a built-in roaming Wi-Fi hotspot and carries a special collection of books and items from the Library of Things, making it easier for the library to reach out and bring pop-up events and educational programs to the community.
A Pop Art Gallery will feature local artists displaying their art throughout the afternoon inside one of the buildings at the corner of Mariposa and Lake Streets.
County Supervisor Kathryn Barger is expected to attend, as well as other dignitaries and local leaders from around the Pasadena-Altadena area.
Thomas said the event will also show the Altadena Chamber is doing all it can to ensure that local businesses thrive.
“Coming to the Sip and Shop allows the community to see all of these vendors and find out about them, find out where their shops are, find out anything that they want to know,” Thomas said. “There are many of these vendors in that community, and people don’t even know that they exist. And so this is an opportunity to promote these businesses, to give them a chance to shine. And that’s what we’re here to do.”
