Household Hazardous / Electronic Waste Roundup Set For Saturday

Pasadena residents will have the opportunity to safely get rid of toxic trash during a free Household Hazardous Waste Roundup from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Brookside Park, just south of the Rose Bowl.

People can bring all kinds of hazardous waste products to the event — including antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, car batteries, used motor oil, paint and pesticides; home-generated sharp waste, such as hypodermic needles, pen needles, syringes, lancets, and intravenous needles; and universal waste including household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and electronic waste (e-waste), such as TVs and monitors, computers, VCRs, stereos, and cell phones.

Because hazardous waste can pollute the environment, it is illegal to discard these items in trash cans, sinks and storm drains.

The roundup is part of the Los Angeles Countywide Household Hazardous and E-Waste Collection Event Program, a campaign to promote public awareness of proper disposal practices of household hazardous and e-waste and to provide a convenient, free disposal option.

In this program, the Los Angeles County Public Works and Sanitation Districts are cooperating with the city of Pasadena as well as neighboring cities. Separate roundups are scheduled for Alhambra, Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, San Gabriel, San Marino, and South Pasadena.

For residential hazardous waste, there’s a transportation limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip when driving your waste to the collection events. Business hazardous waste and electronic waste will be accepted at the collection events. If you are a small business with hazardous waste, visit www.businessrecycling.com to locate a proper recycler near you.

Although these household hazardous and electronic waste collection events have resumed on site, all attendees are still required to wear a face covering — even if vaccinated — and to remain in their vehicles with windows closed,

if possible. Event staff will remove household hazardous and electronic waste from your trunk or pick-up bed. To dispose of sharps, you will have to exit your vehicle and dispose of them in the designated area.

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, have been asked to quarantine, or have recently traveled internationally, please stay home.

On Saturday, Pasadena’s hazardous waste roundup will be at Parking Lot I at Brookside Park, at 360 North Arroyo Blvd. For more information, visit www.lacsd.org/services/solidwaste/hhw_e_waste/cityofpasadena.as, call the Los Angeles County Public Works at (800) CLEAN LA, or visit www.CleanLA.com.
