Huntington Health Brings Free Health Screenings to Altadena’s Bob Lucas Library

Two-hour Tuesday morning event offers community members access to baseline health checks at the recently reopened branch

Free health screenings come to West Altadena on Tuesday, June 9, when Huntington Health partners with the Bob Lucas Memorial Library and Literacy Center to offer two hours of community health assessments from 10 a.m. to noon.

The screenings are part of a recurring Huntington Health outreach effort that brings basic health checks directly to community settings, particularly in neighborhoods where access to preventive care can be uneven. Specific tests offered at this branch event are confirmed by calling the contact number listed in the newsletter announcement.

The Bob Lucas branch — named for Robert “Bob” Lucas, an Altadena resident who pushed in the early 1970s for a library on the community’s west side — has become a busy hub since reopening in August 2025 after a 16-month renovation. The project added roughly 1,000 square feet, expanded the building’s footprint by about 50 percent, and introduced a dedicated children’s area and a new literacy center with classroom and tutoring space.

Huntington Health, a Pasadena-based healthcare system anchored by Huntington Hospital, has played an active role in Eaton Fire recovery, partnering with Altadena institutions on health, wellness and community resilience programming since the January 2025 fire displaced thousands of West Altadena households. Free screening events at the Bob Lucas branch have been recurring features of that partnership.

Walk-ins are welcome and no registration is required. Community members may wish to bring a list of current medications and any relevant health information they want screeners to consider. Spanish-language assistance is generally available at the branch but should be confirmed in advance for participants who need it.

Huntington Health Free Screenings will run on Tuesday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to noon. Bob Lucas Memorial Library and Literacy Center, 2659 N. Lincoln Ave., in Altadena. For more information, call (626) 798-0833. Screenings are free; no registration required.
