Immerse Yourself in a Plein Air Sonic Experience

Published on Jun 8, 2022

Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge presents “Tonalism: Day,” an ambient music exhibit exploring spatial sound installed by nonprofit online radio station dublab, on Thursday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the four-day exhibit, Thursday, June 9 through Sunday, June 12, visitors at Descanso Gardens will experience a quadraphonic sound exhibit taking place during regular visiting hours and including pre-recorded works by various artists that will play on rotation. A specially designed sound system will allow the public to immerse in a sonic experience while enjoying their surroundings.

At the Main Lawn, meditative music will bring a new sound element to this garden space. Visitors can explore The Centering Center’s woven pavilion – a social space for interaction and reflection.

On Thursday, Tina Orduno Calderon, a Culture Bearer of Gabrielino Tongva, Chumash and Yoeme descent, hosts a Storytelling Workshop from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

“Soundbaths” will be featured on Thursday and Friday, June 9 and 10, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

And on Sunday, June 12, Marcos Lutyens, a British interdisciplinary artist and author based in Los Angeles, presents Four Quadrant Induction Meditation, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Throughout the exhibit, the Rose Garden will feature Quadraphonic Soundscapes and other compositions.

Tonalism: Day is free with admission. No advance registration is required.
