Pasadena City Offices Closed Friday, but Libraries, Transit and Trash Service Resume
Most City of Pasadena administrative offices will remain closed Friday, Dec. 26, under the city’s scheduled “Closed Friday” calendar, though select library branches will reopen, mail delivery will resume and police and fire services will remain available for emergencies.
The closure falls on what the city designates as a “Closed Friday” tied to its 9/80 work schedule, according to the city’s closures calendar. California’s official state-holiday list includes Christmas
Day on Dec. 25 but does not list Dec. 26 as a state holiday, and Los Angeles County’s holiday calendar does not add a Dec. 26 holiday when Christmas falls on a Thursday.
Federal executive agencies will also be closed Friday under a White House executive order, though agency heads may keep some offices open for national security, defense or other public need. Pasadena residents planning to visit federal offices should confirm directly with the specific agency or facility before traveling.
Most city offices are expected to resume normal operations Monday, Dec. 29.
Emergency services and utilities
Of course, Pasadena police and fire services will continue operating for emergencies Friday. Residents should call 911 for life-threatening emergencies and 626-744-4241 for non-emergencies, according to a city announcement.
For power emergencies, the city directs residents to call Pasadena Water and Power at 626-744-4673. Water-related emergencies should be reported to 626-744-4138. Customers can access accounts and make payments through the automated phone system at 626-744-4005 or online through PWP’s website, the city said.
Public health services
The Pasadena Public Health Department said its immunization clinic services will be closed Monday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Dec. 29. Cashier services and the vital records public counter will also be closed for all in-person services during that period, with regular operations resuming Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 8 a.m.
Libraries
Pasadena Public Library will operate on a limited schedule Friday. The Hastings, Hill Avenue, La Pintoresca and San Rafael branches will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while all other branches will be closed. Regular hours resume for those branches Saturday, Dec. 27.
Library branches will close Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m., except Jefferson Branch Library, which closes at 5 p.m. All libraries will close Jan. 1. On Friday, Jan. 2, the Hastings, Hill Avenue, La Pintoresca and San Rafael branches will be open for regular hours, and all other branches will resume regular hours Saturday, Jan. 3.
Transit and parking
Pasadena Transit will operate full route schedules Friday following Christmas Day service limitations, according to the agency’s timetable listings.
Parking meters will not be free Friday. The city’s holiday parking waiver applies only to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, not the day after Christmas, according to the city announcement. Overnight parking restrictions are not being enforced from Tuesday, Dec. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 3, and will resume at 2 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4. Red-curb and no-parking violations, driveway blocks and blocking fire hydrants remain enforceable at all times.
Trash collection and tree recycling
City trash collection operates on a one-day delay during Christmas week, meaning Friday is a makeup day for routes shifted by the Christmas Day holiday, the city said.
The city’s Christmas tree drop-off program begins Friday and runs through Friday, Jan. 2, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eaton Blanche Park, 3100 E. Del Mar Blvd., and Robinson Park, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
Parks
Pasadena parks remain open for public use, though the city said no holiday site reservations are accepted.
Schools
Pasadena Unified School District is on winter break through Friday, Jan. 2, according to the district calendar.
Pasadena City College lists Dec. 23 through Jan. 1 as winter break with the campus closed.
Mail and package delivery
The U.S. Postal Service said regular post office operations and mail delivery resume Friday. USPS issued a local advisory stating that normal delivery and collection schedules will resume Friday in the Los Angeles area.
