It’s Summertime, And the Reading at the Pasadena Public Library’s Annual Summer Reading Program for Kids is Easy and Fun

Pasadena Public Library Kicks Off Its Annual Summer Reading Program
Published on Jun 7, 2022

The Pasadena Public Library kicked off its annual Summer Reading Program last Saturday with programming and activities intended to enrich academic engagement, foster an opportunity for community connection through shared experiences, and inspire children to read for enjoyment.

This year’s theme, “Read Beyond the Beaten Path,” encourages participants to explore ideas that are new or unknown to them and forge their own path in life.

Since 1921, the Pasadena Public Library has held its Summer Reading Program to help children retain knowledge and skills learned in school throughout the summer, further their social-emotional development, and discover the joy of stories and the importance of lifelong learning.

As a part of the Summer Reading program, the Pasadena Public Library will host an array of performances, programs, storytimes, workshops, and more. On Saturday, opening day of the program, the Santa Catalina Branch Library will host a “Santa Camp-alina” where the whole family can listen to a wilderness story around a storytime “campfire” and participate in a critter craft activity beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday Storytime at the Hill Ave. Branch Library will be Storytime in the Garden, for kids 3 to 5 and their caregivers, starting at 10:30 a.m. And at 2:30 p.m., Christopher Yates, as Dr. Rusty, presents Dr. Rusty’s Dinosaur Safari, where kids 3 to 5 can meet Ty, a Tyrannosaurus who doesn’t know if he’s an herbivore or a carnivore, at the Linda Vista Branch Library.

For a full list of programs, visit the Pasadena Public Library’s events calendar at www.cityofpasadena.net/library/calendar

Children, teens, and adults are invited to sign up online at https://pasadena.beanstack.com/reader365 or to stop by the Allendale, Hastings, Hill Avenue, Lamanda Park, La Pintoresca, Linda Vista, San Rafael, Santa Catalina or Villa Parke branch libraries to sign up in person.

The 2022 Summer Reading Program, sponsored by The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library, will be held through Saturday, July 30.
