Jazz Festival Set to Transform Pasadena Park into Musical Haven

Community event will showcase local talent and fraternity's commitment to service
Published on Aug 11, 2024

The Summertime Jazz in the Park music festival is poised to bring rhythmic vibrancy to Pasadena’s Memorial Park on Sunday. Organized by the Zeta Tau Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the event will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The festival, taking place at 85 E. Holly Street in Old Pasadena, California, will feature performances by two notable jazz bands. The Allan Wasserman Jazz Ensemble and the John Tirabasso Youth Jazz Band are slated to entertain attendees with their musical prowess.

Organizers have encouraged festival-goers to bring their own picnic items, including chairs, blankets, canopies, and umbrellas. This suggestion comes in anticipation of hot weather conditions expected during the event.

For those preferring not to pack their own provisions, food and drinks will be available for purchase on-site. Vendors will also be present, offering a variety of merchandise including HBCU, D9, and Negro League apparel.

The Zeta Tau Chapter, which has been an active presence in the Pasadena community since 1957, continues its tradition of service through this event. Their long-standing commitment to the area is evident in the organization of this public gathering.

Parking arrangements have been made to accommodate attendees, with a public parking structure conveniently located across the street on Raymond Avenue. This provision aims to ease logistical concerns for those traveling to the event by car.

The Allan Wasserman Jazz Ensemble, one of the featured acts, is known for its dynamic performances and improvisational skills. Wasserman, the bandleader and alto saxophonist, brings a diverse background to his music, including experience in film and television.

The John Tirabasso Youth Jazz Band, also set to perform, represents the festival’s commitment to nurturing young talent. This nonprofit organization focuses on providing opportunities for young musicians to learn and grow in the jazz genre.
