The beloved Jazz in the Park concert series is returning to Playhouse Village Park in Pasadena, California, this summer, presented by the Playhouse Village Association in partnership with the Playhouse Village Foundation. The free concert series, supported by the Ice House Comedy Club and Pasadena Playhouse, will take place every Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. throughout June and July on the park’s Van Halen Stage.

“Jazz music is back in Playhouse Village with the new Jazz in the Park concert series at Playhouse Village Park,” the event organizers stated. Attendees are encouraged to “pick up a picnic dinner from your favorite local restaurant and bring a blanket to the concerts.”

The jazz lineup features a diverse array of artists and styles, including smooth jazz from Pasadena native Michael Haggins on June 2, Latin jazz from the Susia Hansen Quartet on June 9, Brazilian rhythms from the Marcelo Bucater Quartet on June 16, American and world jazz from Kira & the Major 3 on June 23, straight-ahead jazz from The Larry Muradian Quintet on June 30, bebop/boogaloo from the Elliott Caine Quintet on July 7, blues/funk/jazz from Jenny and the Jazz Birds on July 14, R&B jazz from Jasmine on July 21, and bossa nova from Little Brazil on July 28.

Michael Haggins, the June 2 headliner, “began his musical journey at the tender age of eight-years-old,” according to his bio. The *Los Angeles Times* has referred to his unique sound and style as “a special brand of smooth funk.”

Attendees should note that alcoholic beverages are not permitted, and blankets or low-back chairs under 12 inches are allowed anywhere on the lawn. Taller chairs with the top of the back higher than 32 inches from the ground should be used in the rear area to avoid restricting others’ views. While small umbrellas are permitted, larger coverings like tents and canopies are prohibited.

The concert series is partially funded by a grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts and the generous donors of the Playhouse Village Foundation as a result of A Night Out In Playhouse Village. Taco plates and more from Anaya’s Restaurant will be available for purchase on site.

The concerts will be held at Playhouse Village Park, located at 701 E. Union St. in downtown Pasadena.
