The pitch Kidspace makes to families is short and effective: play past your bedtime. On five Friday evenings each summer, the museum keeps its 3.5-acre outdoor campus open into the night and turns the Stone Hollow Amphitheater over to a performing ensemble.

Friday belongs to Kayamanan Ng Lahi, the dance group presenting “Journey through the Philippines.” The performance is interactive, built on dance, music and song, and organized around the range of Filipino cultural traditions rather than a single regional style. Live artmaking runs alongside the music.

Performances are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the museum remains open until 8 p.m.

It is the fourth installment of the 2026 Sunset Music Series, which opened June 26 with West African drumming, dance and cultural storytelling from the youth-led ensemble Le Ballet Dembaya, and continued with Indonesian bamboo angklung and kolintang percussion from the Sounds of Joy ensemble on July 10 and the Masanga Marimba ensemble on July 24. The series closes August 21 with “Folklórica de México” from Ballet Folklorico de Esperanza. The museum states that the series was funded in part by a grant from the Pasadena Community Foundation.

Kidspace itself began in 1979 as a Junior League of Pasadena community project housed at Caltech, and moved into its current Brookside Park home, next to the Rose Bowl, in December 2004.

Reservations are recommended.

“Journey through the Philippines” will run on Friday, August 7 with performances at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd. in Pasadena. For more information, call (626) 449-9144 or visit kidspacemuseum.org. The performance is included with museum admission and is free for members. Reservations recommended.
