Loma Alta Park, at 3330 N. Lincoln Ave., reopened in May 2025 after extensive renovations following Eaton Fire damage. The transformation was supported by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, the LA Clippers Foundation, a $2.4 million grant from the FireAid benefit concert and more than 2,000 volunteers who planted trees and painted murals. The park now houses two Dodgers Dreamfields — the only baseball fields in Altadena — alongside a renovated gym, refurbished basketball courts, a new computer lab, a satellite library and senior center, a Tiny Tots program, mental health services and Our SPOT, a teen center. The swimming pool was also renovated.
Saturday’s picnic is part of a broader rhythm of community programming the county and partner organizations have brought to the park since reopening, designed to give residents — many still displaced — places to gather that don’t require a reservation or admission fee.
For families with kids, the picnic offers something rare in a long recovery year: an afternoon at a park that feels itself again. Picnic blankets, sunscreen and lawn chairs are welcome.
