The free simulcast, supported by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors including Supervisor Kathryn Barger, brings world-class opera to communities still healing from disasters.
A simultaneous simulcast will occur at Santa Monica Pier.
“Experiencing live theater under the night sky is one of those unforgettable LA moments,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “This year, I’m excited that West Side Story is coming to the Santa Monica Pier for a free simulcast on September 27. LA Opera continues to bring incredible performances to our communities, and this event connects Angelenos across the County—with the magic of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion showcased live in both Santa Monica and Altadena.”
Pre-show activities begin at 4:30 p.m., with broadcast starting at 7:30 p.m.
In a nod to the musical’s rivalry, organizers designed “Jets”-themed programming, including Caltech jet propulsion presentations, lawn games, arts and crafts, food vendors, face painting, and performances by local artists Darlene Greene, Melodia Mariposa, and African Soul International.
The production marks LA Opera’s 2025/26 season opener and Music Director James Conlon’s final season.
Subtitles will be provided in English and Spanish. Outside alcohol and pets are not permitted.
