Las Madrinas Concludes Its Year with a Major Gift to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

At the Las Madrinas Annual Meeting held in Pasadena on February 12, 2025, Sheridan Russell Link, President of Las Madrinas, presented Dr. Douglas Vanderbilt, Las Madrinas Chair and Division Chief in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and Bonnie Blackman McClure, Chair of the Associates and Affiliates of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, with a $1.4 million contribution to the Las Madrinas Endowment and Chair in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics on behalf of the members of Las Madrinas. The sizeable gift resulted from a year in which 26 families were honored at the 2024 Las Madrinas Ball.

During this meeting, two Las Madrinas members were honored for their extraordinary generosity to the organization. They are Katherine Archer Hamper and Dorothy Babbitt Shea. Their names will be added to the Las Madrinas Plaque displayed in the lobby of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which recognizes the dedication and exceptional commitment of Las Madrinas members to the hospital. An additional two members were honored with the Las Madrinas Butterfly Plaque which is designed to recognize our existing Plaque Honorees for their continued benevolence. The Las Madrinas Butterfly Honorees are Elizabeth Williams Shoemaker and Alyce de Roulet Williamson.

A festive lunch followed the meeting filled with the delights of success and friendship.

Las Madrinas was established in 1933 as the first Affiliate Group of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and has been funding world-class pediatric care and research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for 91 years. Since 1939, Las Madrinas has honored families who have demonstrated a commitment to the civic, cultural, and philanthropic life of Southern California by presenting their daughters at the Las Madrinas Ball. Donations made in honor of the young women, together with the annual support of Las Madrinas members and friends has enabled Las Madrinas to give over $60 million dollars in support of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, including the funding of 11 Las Madrinas endowments and projects in the last 36 years.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has been named the best children’s hospital in California and among the best in the nation for clinical excellence with its selection to the prestigious U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll. Children’s Hospital is home to The Saban Research Institute, one of the largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States. The hospital is also one of America’s premier teaching hospitals through its affiliation since 1932 with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
