Last Chance: Check Out the Holiday Look In Virtual Home Tour Before it’s too Late

Published on Dec 29, 2020

Now is your last chance to see the 2020 Holiday Look In Virtual Home Tour, as it is set to end on Thursday, Dec. 31.

Participants will have an opportunity to view four elegant homes with music by members of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Now on its 53rd year, the annual Holiday Look in Home Tour is organized by the Women’s Committee of the Pasadena Symphony Association and has become a popular community celebration in Pasadena, drawing visitors from all over Southern California and across the U.S. They come to admire four distinctive homes that have been decorated for the holiday season by prominent floral designers.

Because of the pandemic, the organizers opted to hold a virtual tour this year.

There is no charge to enjoy this first-ever Virtual Home Tour, but the Women’s Committee is encouraging donations to help support the Pasadena Symphony and POPS annual concert series, as well as the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras, whose continued success the annual Holiday Look In Tour has ensured.

Pasadena Symphony Music Director David Lockington will be narrating the virtual tour, with accompanying music by the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras.

Up to Thursday only, the 2020 Holiday Look In Virtual Home Tour will feature the Magnolia House, a regal Federal style home that was built in 1912 by architect Reginald Johnson. The two-story residence has a large colonnaded veranda and is sheltered by a large magnolia tree and a towering pine tree. Appropriately located on Magnolia Street, the artistic embellishments throughout the home pay tribute to the Magnolia tree.

Also featured is the House of a Thousand Dreams, a magnificent Basque country villa designed in 1929 by Edward M. Fowler with exquisite, detailed attention to the beautiful Basque estates in the Pyrenees. Located in the Linda Vista neighborhood of the Upper Arroyo in Pasadena, the home offers a spectacular view of the Pioneers and the Colorado Street Bridges. The home was designed around a central courtyard that provides a view of the lovely garden from almost every room.

The F.W. Griffith House, a sublime Mediterranean-style home designed in 1925 by Roland E. Coate, is also featured in the tour. Coate is one of the most distinguished designers of Spanish architecture in the 1920s. Originally built for New York-based businessman and politician F.W. Griffith, who resided and died in Pasadena, the house is an outstanding example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It is centrally located in Pasadena’s Landmark Oak Knoll District, adjacent to the celebrated Langham Hotel.

Finally, Villa Verde, located at 800 S. San Rafael Ave., has elegant iron scroll gates that open to a winding drive which leads up to this magnificent Mediterranean estate. Created in 1927 by architect Sylvanus Marston, the property was built for E. A. Hardy, who was the past chairman of B. F. Goodrich.  The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the best representative of the Mediterranean architectural style.

When you donate to the Holiday Look In Virtual Home Tour, you help support the Pasadena Symphony and POPS annual concert series, as well as their educational outreach and community engagement programs for young musicians throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
