Latin Grammy Winner To Present “New Beginning” Concert In Pasadena

Contemporary music showcase features world premieres and works by five living composers

Cuban-American composer and conductor Yalil Guerra, a Latin Grammy winner, will lead a special concert titled “New Beginning” at St. Andrew Catholic Church on March 29.

The evening performance, scheduled from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., will showcase the GSO-Guerra String Orchestra in a celebration of contemporary classical music featuring works by five living composers.

Attendees will witness the world premiere of “Into the Impossible,” a composition by Daniel Walker created specifically for this event, according to promotional materials for the concert.

The program also includes the continental premiere of “Adagio,” a piece for flute and strings by celebrated Cuban composer Reynaldo Fernández Pavón, with guest flutist Salpy Kerkonian.

Guerra will present the U.S. premiere of his own Latin GRAMMY-nominated work, “El Retrato de la Paloma” (“The Portrait of the Dove”), adding to the evening’s collection of notable performances.

The concert will additionally feature compositions by David Lefkowitz and Dwayne Milbourn, rounding out the program’s showcase of contemporary classical music by current composers.
