The Pasadena-based winemakers who founded Vin de California in 2016, Kate and Adam Vourvoulis, will talk about “The History of Wine and Winemaking in Pasadena” at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Pasadena on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the University Club of Pasadena at 175 N. Oakland Ave.
Adam and Kate Vourvoulis will speak about how they started making wine on their own before even meeting in 2014. They’re also expected to touch on the history of winemaking in Pasadena, which was an industry even from the late 1800s when grapes were grown here and wine was being made here.
Adam Vourvoulis, a native of Los Angeles, had been a sommelier for 15 years. Over time, he developed an appreciation and love for natural wine. When he met Kate, the idea of making their own wines locally blossomed.
In 2016, they opened Vin de California Winery and Good Luck Wine Shop in a small space on Foothill Blvd. that was within Pasadena’s old winemaking zoning. Their dream to revive the city’s buried wine industry through a return to the production of natural wine had begun.
