The one-morning-only event is scheduled at the playhouse at 87 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. in Sierra Madre, with tickets available through the theater’s box office at (626) 355‑4318.
Set on Tubman’s front porch in the early 1900s, the two-character play treats the audience as visitors listening as she recalls the risks and courage behind her work on the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman is joined onstage by a guitar-playing neighbor, Jeffrey Taylor Jr., and together they use songs and stories to depict her life and her efforts to guide enslaved people to freedom.
BroadwayWorld reports that the production examines “the history of the main character and of the times” and is “interspersed with lively period songs and African-American spirituals, including Go Down, Moses, Oh, Freedom and Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
The Music Center describes the performance as “a telling tale of the difference that can be made through the strength and courage of one individual” that “inspires and encourages the audience to hope, dream and achieve.”
“Letters to Harriet Tubman” will run on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 11 a.m. at Sierra Madre Playhouse, 87 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, Calif. For more information, call (626) 355-4318 or visit https://www.sierramadreplayhouse.org/event/tubman2026. Tickets: $20.
