Pasadena-based Lineage Dance Company is set to challenge and inspire audiences with a performance season that bridges celebration, personal struggle, and community healing. Supported by the Ahmanson Foundation, the nonprofit dance company will present seven productions that promise to redefine the boundaries of performative storytelling.
“It’s all about the Lineage Magic!” the organization declares—and this season, that magic spans an ambitious emotional landscape.
A Journey Through Performance
The season kicks off in August with a vibrant collaboration featuring the Paul McDonald Big Band in “Music from the Movies,” a tribute celebrating iconic film scores. September brings the annual Gala, while October marks the return of the beloved musical “RENT,” offering the first 25 audience members at each performance half-price tickets.
November will see a site-specific performance at the historic Gamble House, with “Broadway Gamble Ramble” exploring American musical theatre through intimate vignettes. January’s “Ceiling in the Floor” takes a poignant and sensitive approach, offering a dance tribute to Brandon Toh that addresses the complex topic of suicide through storytelling and movement.
Amplifying Community Voices
February’s “Healing Blue” reaches a significant milestone with its 20th anniversary, showcasing powerful narratives of women’s experiences with cancer. March will spotlight local talent, featuring performances by the John Muir Mystics and Pasadena High School’s Orchesis dance team.
The season concludes in May and June with a unique dance interpretation of “Little Shop of Horrors,” promising Lineage’s distinctive approach to reimagining classic stories.
Beyond the Stage
Recognizing the financial challenges of arts programming, Lineage is launching a critical fundraising campaign. The organization emphasizes that ticket sales and grants cover only a portion of their operational expenses. They are actively seeking donor support for programs including Dance for Joy, performing arts education, and community collaborations.
As a complement to their performance season, Lineage will host a free Community Intergenerational Workshop on August 16, inviting musical theatre enthusiasts to participate in an interactive storytelling experience.
From film tributes to deeply personal explorations, Lineage Dance Company is proving that dance is more than movement—it’s a powerful medium for connection, healing, and understanding.
