Small dogs struggling with fear and aggression on daily walks can find help through Pasadena Humane’s specialized training course.
“Does your small dog seem to struggle on daily walks? Wondering why they seem to be fearful of some things, and aggressive towards others? You’re not alone!” reads the invitation to “Little Dogs with Big Feelings,” designed for dogs under 30 pounds.
The five-week program uses “positive reinforcement and helpful management ideas” to “help build essential training skills for you and your dog,” according to Pasadena Humane.
Trainers will “guide you and your small dog to become more confident and restore peace to your outdoor adventures.”
The nonprofit highlights “least inhibitive, functionally effective (LIFE) training methods without the use of punishment or force.”
“Our classroom structure is designed to reduce visual contact and is limited to a small number of students,” allowing trainers to work individually with each dog-and-owner pair.
The course has clear restrictions.
“This class is not appropriate for dogs with a bite history or who are reactive to people,” the listing warns.
All dogs must be current on vaccines and accompanied by at least one adult.
Pasadena Humane helped nearly 40,000 animals in 2022 through various services.
Classes are held at the organization’s Behavior & Training Center, where trainers create environments that are “fear free for pets & people alike.”
Little Dogs with Big Feelings sessions run on Tuesdays from Feb. 17, 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Pasadena Humane Behavior & Training Center, 361 S. Raymond Ave., in Pasadena. For more call (626) 792-7151 or visit https://pasadenahumane.org/series/little-dogs-with-big-feelings-6/.
