The sound of bells will ring across Hastings this Wednesday as the community joins a decades-old national tradition linking local civic engagement to constitutional remembrance.
The Daughters of the American Revolution’s Martin Severance Chapter will ring bells at 4 p.m. on September 17 at the Hastings Branch Library, marking Constitution Day as part of the “Bells Across America” commemoration.
The ceremony, started in 1987 by the late Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, connects communities nationwide in recognizing the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
The bell ceremony anchors Constitution Week, running Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19.
Throughout the week, the Hastings Branch Library will offer free pocket-sized copies of the American Constitution for pickup while supplies last.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to make constitutional literacy accessible at the community level, placing founding documents directly into citizens’ hands during a week dedicated to civic education.
“Constitution Week” will run from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19, 2025. Bell ringing ceremony on Wednesday, September 17 at 10 a.m. Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena.
