The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena presents The MacMammals on Friday, October 15, starting at 8 p.m., performing a combination of Irish, North American and Scottish songs, some old, some new, some humorous and some heart tugging.
“A very classy act,” Bob Stane, the Coffee Gallery Backstage owner, said. “One of my favorites. I hoped the show would never end the first time I heard them.”
The MacMammals are based in Newbury Park and perform an eclectic musical stew of sounds from warm ballads to rousing sea shanties, their music weaving historical tales with folklore and humor.
The “Macs” – consisting of Carol Schryver and Ron Bloom, and bassist Paul Marshall – are familiar faces at local Southern California venues and the Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Aside from The Coffee Gallery Backstage, they have performed at Butler’s Coffee in Palmdale, the Camarillo Celtic Faire, Camarillo Cafe Concert Series, the Annual Benefit for ARC in North Hollywood, Music in the Mountains, the Turbotville Folk Festival, the Middlewich Folk Festival in England, and at Monkey La La and Pura Vida in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
The MacMammals have been performing together since 2004. They are available as a duo, trio, and with other musicians.
Tickets for Friday’s show are $20.
