Christopher T. Magician will bring his game show-themed library program to Altadena Library on Monday, June 16, as part of the summer “Lunch at the Library” initiative. The 45-minute performance, titled “Everybody Wins!: The Game Show-Themed Library Program,” aims to celebrate popular children’s books through an interactive combination of magic, comedy, and excitement.

“When everybody reads a good book, Everybody Wins!” states the show’s central message, highlighting the performance’s educational purpose alongside its entertainment value.

The event will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Main Library Community Room at 600 E. Mariposa St., in Altadena. This performance challenges conventional boundaries between entertainment and education, addressing the broader issue of making learning enjoyable for children in an age of competing digital distractions.

Christopher T. Magician brings over 15 years of experience performing magic for children at parties and special events. He is recognized as a family entertainer and kids’ birthday specialist who has previously performed at the Pasadena Public Library’s Jefferson Branch.

The show reimagines storytime as a multisensory, participatory experience. Audience engagement is integral to the performance – children and families are not passive spectators but are invited to participate, laugh, and even shape the flow of the show. This interactive format fosters community connection and creative thinking.

Parents have praised his ability to engage diverse audiences. One Yelp reviewer noted, “Chris hosted a magic show at our local library and had a large group of children from 2-10 entertained for a solid hour.”

The “Lunch at the Library” initiative is part of the Summer Food Service Program by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is administered in California by the California Department of Education. The program serves as a community hub, combining nutritional support with educational entertainment during summer months when learning loss is a concern for many families.

This event continues the longstanding tradition of libraries as centers for free, inclusive community programming, underscoring the library’s role as a catalyst for intellectual curiosity and joy.
