Although COVID-19 has forced us to spend less time with our families and loved ones, that doesn’t mean we have to spend the holiday alone.

On Thursday, Nov. 26, join the Pasadena Senior Center for a virtual meet-and-greet called “Special Edition Social Hour: Thanksgiving” that will make everyone feel a little less alone this holiday season. After joining, spend a very special hour visiting with Pasadena Senior Center friends and sharing some of the reasons for being thankful for, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Studies have shown that during the holidays, many seniors can feel lonely and be reminded of people they may have lost in the past, because of the lack of family get-togethers, an inability to get around, or the feeling that they cannot fully participate in holiday functions. It’s commonly known as the holiday blues, but anywhere around the world elderly depression during the holidays affects seniors most often on holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas or Hanukkah.

That feeling of loneliness can come with health consequences, so interaction with others is crucial to positive emotional health, especially in the elderly population.

As a caregiver to an elderly loved one, people may feel overwhelmed by the stress of holiday planning, in addition to the regular caregiving routines they face daily.

This is where the Pasadena Senior Center can help keep the time spent together enjoyable. Accepting help in caring for loved ones during the holidays can make celebrations run smoothly and will allow everyone to enjoy the occasion.

“Special Edition Social Hour: Thanksgiving” will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.
