Peter Lloyd, currently Professor of Double Bass and Chamber Music at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, will conduct a free String Master Class. His visit represents the kind of international caliber of instruction that the Pasadena Conservatory regularly brings to the community.

Lloyd’s credentials are formidable. A native of Philadelphia, he studied at The Curtis Institute of Music and The Settlement Music School under renowned teachers Roger Scott and Eligio Rossi. After graduation, he immediately joined The Philadelphia Orchestra, where he spent more than eight seasons before moving to the Minnesota Orchestra in 1986. For the next 21 years, he served as Principal Bass, working alongside legendary conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Riccardo Muti, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and James Levine.

Since 2007, Lloyd has maintained an active orchestral career, regularly appearing as principal bass with ensembles worldwide, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony. He has also served as guest Principal Bass with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Lloyd’s students have achieved distinguished careers. Michael Banks joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Bass in Spring 2025, and Brittany Conrad joined the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra recently. The master class will take place in Barrett Hall, an elegant recital space.

String Master Class will run on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 5:00 p.m. Barrett Hall, Pasadena Conservatory of Music, 100 North Hill Avenue, Pasadena, California. For more information, call (626) 683-3355 or visit https://pasadenaconservatory.org/event/string-master-class-peter-lloyd/
