Union Station Homeless Services staff and supporters gather following the kickoff luncheon for the 2026 Masters of Taste event, set for the Rose Bowl, Sunday April 19.

Masters of Taste is returning to the Rose Bowl field this spring with a mission that goes far beyond the endless bites and sips.

Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) — the San Gabriel Valley’s largest provider of homeless services — launched this year’s Masters of Taste season with a kickoff luncheon Wednesday at its Adult Center in Pasadena, bringing supporters and media directly into the setting that defines the event’s purpose: moving neighbors off the street and into stable housing.

Masters of Taste 2026 will be held Sunday, April 19, on the field of the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena.

The choice of venue felt deliberate. After last year’s Eaton Fire devastated Altadena and surrounding communities, Masters of Taste scaled down from its typical stadium spectacle out of respect for victims and families in recovery, replacing it with a smaller-format benefit event.

This year’s kickoff carried a reset energy — celebratory, but grounded.

USHS senior leadership hosted the luncheon, including new Executive Director Katy Hill, who is preparing for her first Masters of Taste. Hill, who also recently led her first Thanksgiving outreach event with Union Station last November, told the group: “I’m honored and excited to be a part of all of this.”

The program’s message was straightforward: in a region where homelessness remains visible and persistent, the fundraiser matters — and the results are measurable.

Union Station emphasizes a housing-first approach paired with wraparound services, reporting a 97% housing retention rate for clients placed into housing — meaning people who are housed are overwhelmingly able to stay housed.

The nonprofit has also recently expanded its family work: a $5 million Bezos Day 1 Families Fund grant has helped Union Station provide interim housing and supportive services to more than 700 families and move over 530 families into permanent housing.

This year’s culinary spotlight will fall on Vanessa and Thomas Tilaka Kalb, the chef-owners of Agnes Restaurant & Cheesery, who will serve as featured chefs for 2026.
As Thomas said, unabashedly, “I played football all throughout high school, and I’m excited to be on the field at the Rose Bowl!”

For all its celebrity chef sparkle, Masters of Taste has always been a fundraiser first — and the kickoff luncheon made that unmistakable: the most important thing being served isn’t dinner. It’s stability.
