The Pasadena Community Foundation and California Community Foundation will each receive $250,000 from Metallica’s charitable organization to assist victims of devastating Los Angeles-area wildfires that have raged since January 7, the foundation announced January 13.

All Within My Hands Foundation, established by the band Metallica, announced the emergency funding as officials warned of Santa Ana winds potentially reaching 70 mph in coming days, with fires showing no signs of slowing despite some containment progress.

The disaster has claimed 24 lives and forced evacuation orders for nearly 100,000 residents, while destroying more than 12,000 commercial and residential structures across 40,000 acres, according to the foundation.

The Pasadena Community Foundation, described as a smaller agency entrenched within the community, will direct its $250,000 toward the Eaton Canyon Fire Relief and Recovery Fund, providing both immediate assistance and long-term recovery support after fires are extinguished.

The California Community Foundation, with its long history of ensuring resources reach those most in need, will apply its $250,000 to the Wildfire Recovery Fund, which provides housing, mental health services, and medical care for displaced residents while rebuilding essential infrastructure.

The California Community Foundation utilizes data from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index to prioritize aid to underserved communities, while also offering labor law education and immigration services to low-wage workers, the foundation reported.

Despite some containment progress over the weekend, emergency officials urged residents to maintain vigilance as weather conditions threaten to create critical fire dangers in the Los Angeles area.

The disaster continues to upend families and dismantle livelihoods across the affected regions as recovery efforts begin.
